But if you're serious about being a career gal anyway and you're sitting by the phone waiting for some boss-man schmuck to call you back, you've got it all wrong. What I do when I need to pick up some extra scratch (besides chatting up a New York debutante), is go down to someplace that's hiring and just start working. Pretty soon, someone will get you all the things you're supposed to have - you know - time cards, uniforms, and such. Just play along like you don't know the score because you're new. Once you're on the payroll, you can start to layoff the work. Go and catch up on some sleep or play cards in a back room. No one knows who you are anyway, so they're not gonna miss you.
